Can summer be over when it’s still 100 degrees outside?
I have a few friends express their condolences over the ending of summer. The kids are in school. But, still folks, it’s a hundred degrees outside! How is that NOT summer?
It’s just so wrong to be in school when the temps are that high. I live in Utah not Arizona. It’s not like it will be 100 once September hits.We should wait until then before we gather our lunch pails and trod through the fields barefoot to school.
I’ve compiled a list:
Things we should be doing instead of going to school in August:
1. Taking a holiday. (So very English of me, but really. Vacationing our brains out is the ONLY way to spend August. I’ve decided. So let it be written so let it be done.) Okay, I did spend a week in Idaho and then another week in Colorado and then, BAM school hit us like a mac truck driver on sleeping pills. (And frozen turkeys, well, that’s almost a nice thought in August. Cold poultry.) Anyway, whose bright idea was it to start school in August anyway? Can anyone really be expected to THINK when it’s so hot outside? I think not!
2. Swimming. It’s the only logical thing to do when you are hot. Water. Water. Water. And more water. Am I making myself clear?
3. Eat popsicles with ice cream centers. If you have to be hot on the outside, you may as well be cool on the inside.

I have a new addiction….
4. Go to the mountains. It’s always cool and lovely in the mountains. If you have to go to school in August, you should do it in the mountains. There are lakes there. You could swim if you wanted to. Not that I would, but I’m just saying. Kill two birds with one stone.
5. Nothing. Sit and veg out with your favorite book. Not moving. Breathing in that wonderous smell of books in August.

That is what August is all about.
Thank you…I agree! And I love what you write…
