I CONduit
Did you notice how clever that title is?
I have to say that because I need to build up my courage to blog again. Because when I go weeks without saying much, I start to doubt my blog-ability. What if what I write is lame? What if I can never think of anything interesting to say again? Then what?! What if people read my blog just to humor me. When that is what I’m trying to do to them? Humor. Be funny. At least be a little interesting for crying out loud.
When I have long bouts of silence on the blog-o-sphere, there are usually reasons: Doubt. Which then turns to fear. Which turns to bloggers block and I can’t write. Or I’m depressed and I haven’t gotten out of bed yet, even though that’s where I usually blog from. Mentally. You know. But that usually only happens in February. (Oooh, I just gave myself the chills–not the good kind.) Or the other other reason for silence is that I’m writing so much, my creativity is well-spent by the time I turn to my blog. And I don’t feel the need to write, because I already did. That’s what has happened over the past few months. I ponder many deep thoughts in my head as I write. Perhaps, I should start sharing them with all of you. But at any rate . . .
I can’t wait to get my book finished and share it with you!!! (I think you’ll agree that it was worth the silence on the blog.)
But, that is not the purpose of this blog post.
I’m hear to tell you about CONduit, the Scifi Fantasy Convention held every year in SLC. You can wear costumes. You can attend lectures to learn about how to write dark underlords. I admit in the past, I mocked it. I know. Don’t mock things, because you may be one someday. Not a dark underlord, I hope, but a geek.
I am really starting to dig scifi and fanatsy.
And that’s a good thing because that’s what I’m writing. Fantasy, anyway. Fairy tales are you know. There’s a little bit of magic in mine. Spells. Sleeping spells mostly. That’s where Sleeping Beauty comes in. There are witches, but no fairies.
At any rate (did I type that already?), CONduit was really cool. I hung out with really cool authors and writer friends and I learned a lot of really cool stuff. I’m looking forward to next year!
Me, a fanasty geek. Who’dve thought?
(Okay, Kristi had me pegged all along, but that doesn’t count.) (JK)
You are so clever, Melinda.
Shari, thanks. I just can’t seem to hear that enough.
