Melinda Morley

Writer in Progress

welcome

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them. Henry David Thoreau

Melinda needs…google knows all.

Melinda needs…

I could fill in the blanks myself, but why, why not ask Google? Google is after all the I Ching of all wisdom. Really.

Top Ten Things That Google Thinks Melinda Needs:

1. Melinda needs to come with the Canfield Crew to Idaho to play in the Pokemon State Champs. (So there you have it–my alter ego. That’s what I do when no one knows what I’m doing. Go Pikachu.)

2.Melinda needs our prayers! (Sure. I’ll take all the help I can get.)

3. Melinda needs work. While she probably busts everyone in the chops department, it’s no secret that she lacks a certain dynamism. (I resent that statement.)

4. Melinda needs to pay attention to who’s in the mirror. (What the? I’m already completely self-absorbed, google. Don’t you read my blog?)

5. Melinda needs to wake up from Jim’s bedside already because this “dream” of hers about getting a 2nd chance with architect boy is getting ridiculous. (I’ll pass on commenting on this one.)

6. Melinda needs her siblings. (Deep. Ponderous. I have six siblings… and that makes for very good writing fodder.)

7. Melinda needs Wiltshire behind her tonight. (Wilt, where are you when I need you?)

8. Melinda needs you to help her in her business. (Just promise to buy my book when I publish it, that’s all I ask of you.)

9. Melinda needs someone who’ll believe in her. (I think I’m covered in that department–I have awesome family and friends.)

10. Melinda needs a new cash register. (Um, yah. Whatever google.)

(I stole this idea from Jill’s blog and feel that I have to give credit where credit is due. Or maybe it’s because she is making me a fairy door, I feel obligated to name drop. Jill rocks!)

So, that was fun. Now onto other things.

I made it back from Arizona after about 14 hours of travelling. Not. Kidding. After three hours I had to put on the headphones at full blast and zone out. . .and remembered why it had been two or three years since our last trip. . . and how much easier it is to love my kids when we are not stuck in the suburb for long long long periods of time. It was all downhill from there.

And then after one day at home, I headed for LTUE, asci fi fantasy writer’s symposium at BYU. I know. I don’t do sci fi and I only read light fantasy. But technically my new book is a fantasy, because it is a fairy tale retelling. And a little bit of magic. Not much. No dragons. No fairies. There are a couple of witches, though. And a really ugly bounty hunter. Aren’t you dying to read it now? Too bad. It’s not done. I’m such a tease. . .

Anyway, loved LTUE. Met up with my writer and author friends that I love. Learned a little, laughed a lot, and longed for more.

I really could go on and on about LTUE, but I think it would end up sounding like a journal entry and so in order not to bore you so that you stop reading my blog, I’ll refrain. Just know that writer’s are among the best people in the world and hanging with them is awesome.

I’m motivated more than ever to finish my book. I’m tired of being in the audience. . .
