Finally! Two down and one to go
Finals. Can anyone raise their hand and tell me why on earth there are finals the week before Christmas? Anyone? Anyone?
I didn’t think so. I have no idea either.
I conquered D&C with only a B-. No worse for the wear, it was a 133 multiple choice question test and I have no idea what the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood is. I actually skim read that chapter. Since I have three sons, I suppose I should find out. I finished the class with a B+.
I had a discouraging experience in my ENG 315 final. Blank. My mind went blank. I eeked through a few coherent thoughts and wished for a multiple choice test. I’m sure I passed, but I am no longer the A student I used to be, but really folks, I have a full life before adding school. And. It is Christmastime. I am slightly preoccupied!
As hard as it is to reliquinsh my A status, I feel I have no choice. a.) Because doing one’s best is all one can do and if that does not produce an A . . . b.) Because who in the course of my life is going to care what my GPA is? I am a writer not a doctor. c.) Suppose I graduated from BYU with a high GPA, would it be proper to tell anyone? I mean wouldn’t I sound like a braggart?
Me: Hi, my name is Melinda. I have a GPA of — at BYU.
New Acquaintence: (thinking: What a loser.) Nice to meet you. Oh, there’s my cell phone. Sorry, Excuse me. (Opens cell phone and flees the room.)
Me (thinking): I didn’t hear anything.
See how that would not work?
So now my GPA will be AVERAGE. I’m okay with that. (Except, when you really think about it, most people had to have a 4.0 to get into BYU in the first place, and therefore my GPA is really below average. I am okay with that, too.)
Don’t feel too bad.
I also lost my A status at BYU.
(Thank you Hugh Nibley.)
Well, I also didn’t get an A in the only English/writing class I ever took in college–business writing. Are you laughing yet.
I think it is funny.
Do the math. Your GPA will still be above average. *grin*
Graduating is important. Keep doing your best. It is what you learn. No one will ever ask about your GPA. (Unless you do a Master’s–and you’ll still be able to get in.)
