Some People are Never Happy
On Wednesday we went to Lagoon. It’s been awhile since we’ve bought passes for the whole family. (I think Em was a baby, then.) I felt it was high time that we experienced Lagoon together.
It was great fun. Ken and I switched off and on between the big kids and the little kids and a few rides we all took together. The new roller coaster, Wicked, was, of course, wicked awesome. The Spider was freaky! I hate rides where you fly out over the edge and there is nothing (feels that way) underneath you. I actually had to close my eyes, which shows what a wimp I am sometimes. John and I took the tilt-a-wirl, oh, fifty-ish, times. We got really good at spinning.
Another reason I am a wimp: the tempurature was 100+ degrees.
I felt like I was being baked alive. I can’t even remember when I have been so hot. Even the parade on the Fourth wasn’t that hot. We went on rattlesnake rapids in hopes of cooling off and nearly passed out in line from heat exaustion. I think my clothes began to steam after that ride and dried much too quickly.
After Rattlesnake, Ken and I split up and I took Sam and John on the train. I overheard a lady sitting behind us say that she wished it was winter and that she was building a snowman “right now.”
I was hot. But I had to stop and think, am I that hot? How easy it was to forget the 8+ weeks of below freezing weather in January and February. That felt like another lifetime. Did I wish for that?
NO
But, I have to admit. I have complained about the heat. This had been the longest heat stretch I can remember. It was in the 90’s through most of May and in the 100’s for most of July. But, do I wish for winter? Maybe the tinsiest bit. (UGH! Did I just write that?) See, some people are never happy.
I hope I’m really not one of them.
Maybe I just wish for Fall. There, see, I am easy to please. Fall is just around the corner.
What I really want is a long summer with a temperature in the 80’s.
What have you been doing to cool down this summer?
In your hottest hour do you ever wish for winter?
